Career Overview
The years ahead have been described as the Decade of
Psychiatry. With the growth in research in the field of neuroscience,
increasing awareness of psychiatric issues in medical conditions as well as the
implementation of the National Mental Health Blueprint for Singapore, the future for a career
in psychiatry is bright.
Psychiatry truly combines the Art as well as the Science of
Medicine and, therefore, if you are someone with good 'people' skills and agree
that there is no health without mental health, then psychiatry offers a
challenging and stimulating career for you.
Aim of Program
The
National Psychiatry Residency Program aims to train psychiatrists in the
management of a wide range of psychiatric conditions to meet the present and
future mental health needs of Singapore.
The
programme ensures that you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of
mental health settings including rotations in the Institute of Mental Health (IMH),
Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), National
University Hospital (NUH), Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Changi General
Hospital (CGH) and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKWCH).
During
the five-year residency program, you will participate in a wide range of
didactic sessions, with opportunities for supervised clinical experience in
general psychiatry and the various psychiatry sub-specialties.
We
offer valuable working opportunities in multi-disciplinary teams and interaction
with professionals in the other medical disciplines. There will be
competency-based, formative and summative assessments and you will be
supervised by experienced and committed faculty members.
