A/Prof Chiam Peak Chiang

A/Prof Chiam Peak Chiang is a senior consultant in the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry, Institute of Mental Health (IMH). When not in the wards, clinics and nursing homes managing elderly people with psychiatric disorders, she would be engaged with teaching activities. She teaches medical students who rotate through IMH and supervises the psychiatric trainees. As the Director of the Training Division and Education Director’s Office of IMH, she co-ordinates the teaching activities of the hospital staff, medical students, and psychiatric trainees. As the Program Director of the National Psychiatry Program, she will make sure that the residents are rotated through all the necessary postings in IMH and the Psychological Departments of the general hospitals to be trained in not just general psychiatry and but also in the sub-specialties. She is also actively involved in the MMed (Psychiatry) Examinations both as an examiner and as a member of the MMed (Psychiatry) Committee of the Division of Graduate Medical Studies.

Dr Nicholas Chew Wuen Ming

Dr Nicholas Chew Wuen Ming is a consultant psychiatrist and deputy head of the department of psychological medicine ttsh. He received post graduate training in consultation liaison psychiatry and psychotherapy at Montreal General Hospital, McGill university health center.

He currently runs a HIV psychiatry service at the communicable disease centre and a post-stroke depression service in TTSH-rehab at Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hwa Kwan hospital. He has a keen interest in teaching, was nominated for the TTSH top 10 teachers award in 2007 and 2008, as well as the NUS dean’s teaching award 2007. He is currently a risk management trainer with the Medical Protection Society and the Cognitive Institute.

Dr Ong Seh Hong (MBBS 1987, MRCPsych(UK)1994, FAMS 1997) did his basic medical training at NUS and his post graduate training with the Westminster-Charing Cross psychiatric rotation. Currently he is a Senior Consultant at AH (Psychological Wellness) and a Visiting Consultant at TTSH.

Dr Cai Yiming graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1975.

He joined Woodbridge Hospital as a medical officer and started his career in psychiatry in 1977.

He received postgraduate training in psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry in London under a Commonwealth scholarship (United Kingdom) from 1979 to 1981. He has been a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) since 1987. From 1991 to 1992 he was based in the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto (Canada) as a Clinical Fellow under the Health Manpower Development Plan Fellowship Scheme (Ministry of Health, Singapore).

He was Head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Institute of Mental Health and Woodbridge Hospital from 1993 to 2006.

Dr Tan Lay Ling is a senior consultant in the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry, Institute of Mental Health (IMH). At the departmental level, she coordinates the teaching program and training of medical and allied health professionals. She is appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor by the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and teaches medical students who rotate through IMH. As Deputy Director of the Training Division and Education Director’s Office of IMH, she helps with the teaching program of the psychiatric trainees and co-ordinates the teaching activities of other hospital staff.

Dr Ong Say How is a consultant child psychiatrist and the deputy chief in the department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Institute of Mental Health (IMH). Graduated in National University of Singapore in 1999 with a Masters Degree in Psychiatry and a Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy in 2001, Dr Ong has recently been awarded a 1-year Research Fellowship to New York Columbia University and New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI) in 2004. Since his return to Singapore, he has been deeply engaged in outpatient services for children and adolescent with psychological problems and research work in mood disorders and schizophrenia. Besides being a executive committee member with the Singapore Association for Mental Health (SAMH) in which he is actively involved in public education and caregivers training, Dr Ong is also a frequent speaker in public forums and Mediacorp interviews on child mental health issues. His authorship also spans various relevant topics on children and adolescent mental health.

Dr Aaron Ang is a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry. He graduated from the National University of Singapore (MB,BS) in 1996. He obtained the Singapore Psychiatric Association Book Prize for Masters of Medicine (Psychiatry) Singapore (2002). He has a special interest in Geriatric Psychiatry and having completed his Advance Specialty Training (AST) in Psychiatry in 2006, he worked in the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry, Institute of Mental Health / Woodbridge Hospital for 4 years. To better manage his patients holistically, he obtained Membership to the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2005. He has been involved in the teaching of Undergraduates from both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School as Clinical Teacher and Adjunct Instructor respectively. He had served as Deputy Director of Training in the Institute of Mental Health from 2006 to 2009 and been involved in the training programme and teaching of psychiatry postgraduates. He was awarded Excellence Award for Teaching by the National Healthcare Group, Singapore in 2005.

Dr Andrew LH Peh, Associate Program Director for Psychiatric Residency at CGH, works in the areas of mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders and cognitive behaviour psychotherapy. He obtained his medical degree and Masters in Medicine (Psychiatry) from the National University of Singapore and is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is Senior Consultant with the Department of Psychological Medicine, Changi General Hospital and is in charge of the consultation liaison psychiatric program at CGH. In addition, he is Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Duke-GMS Medical School. He was appointed Associate Editor of the Singapore Medical Journal since 2004. In addition, he is the author of several books.

Dr Lai Yew Min, MBBS, MMed (Psychiatry), is the associate programme director for the graduate medical education programme of the Department of Psychological Medicine at the National University Health System.

She graduated from the National University of Singapore and was trained in psychiatry at the Woodbridge Hospital and the National University Hospital in Singapore. She practises adult general psychiatry and has a special interest in the cognitive behaviour therapy of mood and anxiety disorders. She is the Consultant-in-charge of the psychiatric inpatient service and has held this position since 2004. She was the Clinical Coordinator for the Final MMed (Psychiatry) examinations from 2003 to 2007.

Dr Helen Chen is Senior Consultant psychiatrist, and Head, KKH Mental Wellness Service. She is also the Director of the Postnatal Depression Intervention Programme, a MOH-funded project that aims to screen for Postnatal Depression amongst a cohort of recently delievered women for the purpose of early intervention. She completed her training in the area of perinatal psychiatry and women’s mental health at the Queen’s Medical Centre, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, and has many years of clinical experience working with women suffering from emotional disorders. She is particularly passionate about caring for women who suffer from psychological difficulties related to childbearing., and her other areas of interest include psycho-oncology (in relation to gynaecological cancers and breast cancer). Her research, publication and teaching experience has been related to emotional and psychological health issues in women, particularly in the context of motherhood. Her experiences have time and again humbled her, and made her respectful of the courage and perseverance of spirit of her patients, and that of human nature

Dr Somath Sengupta is currently a Consultant in General Psychiatry at Institute of Mental Health, (IMH). He opted for a teaching career soon on completing his Postgraduate training in psychiatry (MD) from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India in 1988. He has then held Faculty position in different national and reputed medical institutes of India over last twenty years. He finally held the position of Professor in psychiatry at Institute of Human Behavior & Allied Sciences (IHBAS), New Delhi, before coming over to Singapore. Though he likes to have informal (bedside) and interactive teaching sessions for the trainees he has experience in both formal as well as informal teaching sessions. His special areas of interest are severe mental disorders, alcoholism and consultation liaison psychiatry. He is an international member of European Psychiatric Association.

Somath Sengupta

Dr Sujatha Rao is an Associate Consultant in the Early Psychosis Intervention Team(EPIP) and Support for Wellness Achievement Programme (SWAP). She completed her psychiatric training in the United Kingdom prior to embarking on her career at the Institute of Mental Health since 2007. She has had extensive experience in teaching and conducting workshops as well as seminars to large groups of audience at public forums, to students and lecturers at local educational institutions and school counselors from the Ministry of Health. She is currently a Clinical Tutor for the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and an Adjunct Lecturer for the Duke-NUS Medical University. She has previously been an OSCE examiner for medical students in the UK and has been involved in conducting the OSCE exams for the Duke-NUS medical students in Singapore. She is also a coordinator for the 4th Year Duke Elective Programme.

Adjunct Associate Professor and Senior Consultant Psychiatrist with the Department of Psychological Medicine, NUHS.

Dr Wong graduated from NUS in 1987, and completed his specialist training in psychiatry at NUH, IMH and TTSH. He was awarded Master of Medicine (Psychiatry) in 1992, and exited form Advanced Specialty (Psychiatry) training program in 1995. He was appointed a Fellow in Trauma Psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland, USA in 1996, participated in trauma management training with the American Red Cross Disaster Management Division and the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. Dr Wong was instrumental in the training development of Psychological Trauma Management for doctors and mental healthcare workers in SAF. He is a graduant of the US Military Strategic Leadership Program 2004 and the Singapore Armed Forces Command and Staff College Senior Commander Course 2005.

Dr Wong is also a trained Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, graduated with a Master of Science in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (Merit) from King’s College, London 2002. His clinical training assignment includes Child Guidance Clinic/ Institute of Mental Health Singapore, Bloomfield Center Child and Adolescent Neuropsychiatry Clinic/ Guy’s Hospital London and the Department of Child Psychiatry/ Institute of Psychiatry, Maudsley, London. He has a special interest in ADHD and developmental psychiatry.

He has contributed actively towards psychiatry training of undergraduate medical students, post-graduate training, having served as Clinical Teacher, and is now an Adjunct Associate Professor with the Department of Psychological Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS.

Dr Wong is an established clinician with a wide repertoire of clinical skills and experiences in psychiatry, medical teaching, research, and organizational management. He is particularly excited about seeing the new Residency program taking root, nurturing a new generation of competency based and passionate psychiatrists.

Dr Samuel Cheng is a senior consultant in the Department of Psychological Department at CGH (Changi General Hospital). His principal areas of interests are psychotherapy and epidemiology. He is one of the key lecturers in the NUS postgraduate diploma/certificate in psychotherapy programme (dynamic track) and is actively involved in the teaching and supervision of psychotherapy in CGH.
