Dr. Koh Nien Yue is a senior consultant with the Department of General Medicine, with a special interest in Palliative Medicine. She obtained her membership with the Royal College of Physician (United Kingdom) in 1998 and is a specialist in Internal Medicine since 2002. Dr Koh is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine. She is currently an adjunct with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

PATHOLOGY

Dr Chuah Khoon Leong

Dr Chuah graduated from the School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 1991, and subsequently completed his post-graduate training in anatomic pathology at the Singapore General Hospital in 1999. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA), the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the Academy of Medicine (Singapore). Following his clinical training, he was awarded a scholarship under the Ministry of Health’s Health Manpower Development Program to understudy Professor Thomas Colby and Professor Kevin Leslie at the Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale, USA in pulmonary pathology from 2001-2002. His other areas of interest include soft tissue and bone pathology and haematopathology.
He is a member of several professional societies including the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, Pulmonary Pathology Society (USA) and British Division of the International Academy of Pathology. He currently has over 50 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, and is an editorial board member of Pathology (RCPA journal) and Singapore Medical Journal.

Dr Chuah also oversees the department’s accreditation with the College of American Pathologists and is a technical assessor for the Singapore Accreditation Council Laboratory Accreditation Scheme.

Dr Chuah is a senior clinical lecturer in the Department of Pathology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, as well as the Program Director of the NHG-AHPL Pathology Residency Program. In addition, he has been an examiner with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia since 2005 and is an active member of the Joint Committee for Specialist Training (Histopathology Section). He takes a personal interest in teaching and is actively involved in tutoring both anatomic pathology residents and undergraduate students. His passion for nurturing has benefited generations of young pathologists who remain inspired to excel in this field.
Chuah Khoon Leong

PSYCHIATRY

A/Prof Chiam Peak Chiang

Clinical A/Prof Chiam Peak Chiang is a senior consultant in the Department of Geriatric Psychiatry, Institute of Mental Health (IMH). When not in the wards, clinics and nursing homes managing elderly people with psychiatric disorders, she is usually engaged in teaching activities. She teaches medical students who rotate through IMH and supervises the psychiatric trainees. As the Director of the Training Division and Education Director’s Office of IMH, she coordinates the teaching activities of the hospital staff, medical students, and psychiatric trainees. As the Program Director of the National Psychiatry Program, she ensures that the residents are rotated through all the necessary postings in IMH and the Psychological Departments of the general hospitals to be trained in not just general psychiatry and but also in the sub-specialties. She is also actively involved in the MMed (Psychiatry) Examinations both as an examiner and as a member of the MMed (Psychiatry) Committee of the Division of Graduate Medical Studies.

Dr Kenneth Heng

Dr Kenneth Heng is currently a consultant emergency physician at the Emergency Department, TTSH.

He is the Program Director of the NHG Emergency Medicine residency program.

He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1994 and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (A&E) in 2001.
His main interest is in trauma epidemiology and injury control and he has done fellowships at The Alfred Emergency and Trauma Centre, Melbourne Australia in 2002 and Injury Research Centre, Medical College of Wisconsin in 2005.

He is actively involved in training and has held posts as Chairman of the Emergency Medicine Training Workgroup, Institute of Medical Education & Training (IMET), Chairman of TTSH Life Support Training Committee and is a member of the Specialist Training Committee in Emergency Medicine.

He was given the Best Teacher Award in TTSH (senior category, surgical division) in 2006.

Kenneth Heng

Dr Nicholas Chew

Dr Nicholas Chew is a consultant psychiatrist and deputy head of the Department of Psychological Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He received post-graduate training in consultation liaison psychiatry and psychotherapy at Montreal General Hospital, McGill University Health Center.
He currently runs a HIV psychiatry service at the Communicable Disease Centre and a post-stroke depression service in TTSH-rehab at Ang Mo Kio – Thye Hwa Kwan Hospital.

He has a keen interest in teaching, and was nominated for the TTSH Top 10 Teachers Award in 2007 and 2008, as well as the NUS dean’s teaching award 2007. He is currently a risk management trainer with the Medical Protection Society and the Cognitive Institute.

Dr Roy Kan

Dr Roy Kan is currently a consultant in the Department of Anaesthesiology, TTSH.

He is the Program Director for the NHG-AHPL Anaesthesiology Residency Program.

Dr Kan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and obtained his Masters of Medicine (Anaesthesiology) in 2005. He completed a fellowship in cardio-thoracic-vascular anaesthesia and trans-esophageal echocardiography at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, USA in 2008. Dr Kan is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and is a member of the Training and Education sub-committee of the Anaesthesia Specialty Training Committee.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his two young sons.

ORTHOPAEDIC SURGRY

Dr S.S. Sathappan

Dr S.S. Sathappan graduated from University of Bristol, United Kingdom in 1995. He obtained his FRCSEd in 1999. Thereafter, he completed his advanced surgical training in Orthopaedics in 2003 and obtained his FRCSEd (Ortho & Trauma). He subsequently completed a one-year specialty fellowship in Adult Reconstructive surgery in the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York, USA.

He has won numerous awards during his training years and as a consultant. These include: Nathan Burton Elective Award (1994); Suple best student in medicine award (1995); Hip & Knee Arthritis and Reconstruction Scholarship (Hip & Knee Society, USA, 2005); Young Orthopaedic Investigator award (2007); Yahya Cohen Surgical award (2008) NHG Quality Pillar Award (2007/08); Best Clinical Practice Improvement Program award (2007); and  NUS teaching excellence award (2007/08).

Currently, he is a Consultant in the department of Orthopaedics with a special interest in adult reconstructive surgery, sports surgery & management of complex pelvic and acetabular trauma. He performs primary, revision and computer-assisted knee and hip joint replacement surgery. He also gets numerous referrals for revision hip and knee arthroplasty. Besides this, he also performs biological procedures for the hip such as live-fibula graft surgery in avascular necrosis (AVN) of the hip, as well as hip resurfacing procedures. With regards to total knee replacement surgery, he has a special interest in optimizing high-flexion in patients, and is evaluating various design options through international multi-centre clinical research groups. He has a special interest in sports surgery and performs arthroscopic (“key-hole”) meniscal repairs and ligament reconstruction procedures.

Dr Sathappan has also taken on several other responsibilities and these include: Clinical tutor in NUS; Specialty Board Member for the Chapter of Orthopaedic Surgeons (Singapore); Clinical Research Co-ordinator; ATLS Course Instructor; and BCLS Course Instructor. He has written numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and has also written book chapters in several orthopaedic textbooks. Annually, he is involved in numerous international hip and knee orthopaedic meetings as an invited faculty where he often lectures in various subspecialty topics.

Dr Daniel Wong

Dr Daniel Wong graduated from NUS in 1985. He has been working in TTSH since 1988 since his days as a Radiology trainee.
He became a full-fledged radiologist in 1992, and started his sub-specialty training in vascular and interventional radiology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Flinders Hospital, Adelaide in 1995.

He has been Head of Vascular and Interventional Radiology since 1997. He was appointed Head of Training for the department since 2000, looking after the undergraduate, BST and AST programs. He also takes care of several foreign fellowship programs for the department.

Dr Daniel is married with three children aged 21, 19 and 6. In his spare time, he is a keen golfer and movie buff.

OPHTHALMOLOGY

Dr Lee Kuan Ming, Llewellyn

Dr Llewellyn Lee is a consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr Lee obtained his Masters degree in Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2005, and his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 2008.
He was awarded Singapore’s Ministry of Health Manpower Development Program scholarship in 2008, and underwent a 12-month clinical fellowship at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea, where his sub-specialty training was in the field of oculoplastic surgery. Eyelid surgery and lid reconstructive surgery remain his areas of interest, as well as the management of a wide range of eyelid and orbital conditions.

 Dr Lee plays an active role in the training and education of junior ophthalmologists and other health professionals in Singapore, being a member of his department’s Training and Education committee. He is a Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore (NUS), as well as a lecturer of the Singapore Polytechnic-University of Manchester (SP-UM) optometry degree programme. He was recently appointed Program Director for the NHG Ophthalmology Residency Program. His approachable and friendly nature has also seen him being appointed the department’s Care Counselor.

Lee Kuan Ming, Llewellyn

OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY

Dr Yeo Seng Beng

Dr Yeo Seng Beng graduated from medical school at the National University of Singapore in 1985 and joined TTSH as a resident in 1989. He obtained his specialist qualifications in ORL in 1990 when became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has a subspecialty interest in otology, and underwent fellowship programs in the Georgia Ear Institute in 1997, and University of Iowa, and Stanford in 2003. He is presently a Senior Consultant in the Department of Otolaryngology. He is also visiting consultant to CGH and NUH.

Dr Yeo has always been active in teaching, and is a Clinical Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He is also very involved in post-graduate residency teaching, and is a member of the Ministry of Health’s ORL Specialist Training Committee, and Vice-Chairman of the Chapter of ORL, College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine. He has been the Director of the National ORL Training for Singapore’s ORL residents since November 2004.

Yeo Seng Beng

FAMILY MEDICINE

Adj Asst Prof Tan Kim Kiat

Dr Tan Kim Kiat graduated from the School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore in 1990 and obtained his Masters in Medicine (Family Medicine) (Singapore) in 2005.

Dr Tan joined the Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic, National Healthcare Group Polyclinic (NHGP) in 2003. By 2006, he was appointed the Deputy Head of Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic and is progressively more involved in training matters of both medical students and junior doctors. He is a member of the Family Medicine MMed Training Committee (NHGP), the MMed Training Coordination Committee, JCFMT and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
He is also actively involved in various taskforces and committees in NHGP including being the Clinic Infection Control Advisor (ICAR) and Clinic Quality and Patient Safety Advocate.
