Emergency Medicine
Dr. Kenneth Heng Wei Jian

Dr
Kenneth Heng is currently a consultant emergency physician
at the Emergency Department, TTSH. He is the program director of the NHG
Emergency Medicine residency program. He graduated from the National University
of Singapore in 1994 and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons
of Edinburgh (A&E) in 2001. His main interest is in trauma epidemiology and
injury control and he has done fellowships at The Alfred Emergency and Trauma
Centre, Melbourne Australia in 2002 and Injury
Research Centre, Medical College of Wisconsin in 2005. He is actively involved
in training and has held posts as Chairman of Emergency Medicine Training
Workgroup, Institute of Medical Education & Training (IMET), Chairman of TTSH
Life Support Training Committee and is a member of the Specialist Training
Committee in Emergency Medicine. He was awarded best teacher in TTSH (senior
category, surgical division) in 2006. |

A/Prof Tham Kum Ying

A/Prof Tham Kum Ying graduated in 1988 with MBBS from the National University of Singapore and obtained her FRCSEd (A&E) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, United Kingdom in 1993 and FAMS, Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 1999. A/Prof Tham has played a very active leadership role in enhancing the teaching programmes of medical students, house officers and medical officers ever since she came onboard as an Associate Dean in 2007. When A/Prof Tham was a senior lecturer in 2003, she made impressive contributions in the advance of education and training of medical students, medical officer trainees, nurses as well as paramedics. Equipped with the Master of Science (MSc) in Training and Human Resource Management which she graduated with a Distinction from the University of Leicester, UK in 2006, she has moved on beyond her field of practice and specialization in resuscitation, life support skills, trauma and emergency medicine, to be involved in curriculum and course-ware development for e-learning and house officers-medical officers core procedures skills. She is a much sought after teacher, instructor and lecturer and is an excellent teacher who has constantly been voted as the best teacher. She has won the institution´s Top 10 Teachers Award in the recent two consecutive years.

Clinical Associate Professor (A/Prof) Eillyne Seow

Clinical Associate Professor (A/Prof) Eillyne Seow is one of the pioneers in Emergency Medicine in Singapore. She received her medical degree in 1985 from the National University of Singapore. She obtained her post basic degree in 1991 from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and spent 7 months in the USA under an HMDP scholarship to subspecialise in prehospital emergency medicine.
She became the Head of TTSH Emergency Department in 2001, a position she has held till now. She is also the Divisional Chairman (Ambulatory & Diagnostic Medicine). Since 1995, she has served at various times on the national committees on emergency medicine training, resuscitation, prehospital emergency care, drug rehabilitation review and emergency medicine. She was the founding vice-president for the Society of Emergency Medicine for Singapore and was the President of this society from 2004 to 2006. She was also a founding member on the Board of Directors of the Asian Society of Emergency Medicine and held various posts till March 2009.
She is a popular and sought-after teacher and has not only personally nurtured all the emergency physicians in TTSH, she has also been integral in training Brunei’s first emergency physician.
She is internationally renowned and has been an invited speaker at regional and international meetings. Her passion for teaching Emergency Medicine has led her to spearhead numerous outreach projects in Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei and Thailand. She has published papers on prehospital emergency care, family violence, trauma, infectious disease outbreaks, health services research and emergency department management. She has authored and contributed to emergency medicine textbooks.

Dr Phua Dong Haur

Dr Phua Dong Haur graduated from the faculty of medicine, National University of Singapore in 1999. He obtained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (A/E) in 2003 and Master of Medicine (A/E) in 2005 and Fellow of the Academy of Medicine of Singapore in 2006. He trained in clinical toxicology and is particularly interested in plant and herbal poisoning. His other interests include clinical decision-making, resuscitation and elderly mistreatment. He is actively involved in medical officer training and is responsible for revamping the Emergency Department’s training syllabus. He was also one of the authors of the book “More than Meets The Eye – Cases from the Emergency Department”. |
